Sustainable development is linked to energy efficiency. And cogeneration systems are one of the best tools to achieve this. Now, with the resolutions of the climate summit, cogeneration could be a key technology. Javier Rodriguez, general manager ACOGEN, reflects on the participation of the sector in the fight against climate change.
«The Paris Agreement is not perfect but provides an exciting and effective way to drive global action in the fight against climate change and, associated therewith, to global progress. Bearing in mind that 196 countries have been seeking agreement on a single text, in which each and every one of them would see his position represented, the result is unprecedented. The will that all countries have shown and the knowledge contributed are the seed of a new spirit of cooperation and brotherhood of decisive impact for humanity.
We are very proud of the work of the representatives of the European Commission and the Spanish administration also -of our business organizations and very specially of the CEOE, for their great efforts during the negotiations and the experience and capabilities provided.
The EU has maintained its leadership, with its reduction targets being the most ambitious in the world, and it has been a key player trying to reach global consensus and balance in a sincere and effective negotiation.
In addition, all new Governance of the Energy Union, agreed upon by the EU just a few weeks ago, reaffirms and launches this binding machinery through climate change and energy across all EU countries, with accurate plans and instruments finely tuned.
Clearly, some major economies have yet to strengthen their commitments to be more ambitious. This is a path that, surely, will be covered in the future.
Starting from Paris, the European Union faces the challenge of achieving the quantitative target for reducing emissions established, without damaging the competitiveness of the industry and at the same time encouraging a shift in the model of society to move towards a more environmentally sustainable future.
In CHP we are very pleased because we know that, when it comes to industrial competitiveness, efficiency and combating climate change, we can contribute a lot and we will do it. «
